ABOUT US
We are a group of approximately 90 people who love to paint. Our meetings are held once a mont September to June. Actual dates are announced after the hall is booked. We like to encourage our members to bring along any of your painted pieces for our "show and tell' table. We enjoy seeing other people's work.
OUR PURPOSE
To encourage and promote the practice and knowledge of decorative painting. To promote/provide a forum for painters to meet and exchange ideas. To enrich our painting experiences through programs, seminars and demonstrations.
MEETINGS
Our meetings are held once a month on the second (2nd) Monday of the month from 9AM to 12PM. This only changes when the date interferes with a holiday and in that case the date is changed dependent on the availability of the hall. The meeting are held at the Peterborough Lions Centre located at 349 Burnham Street(East City) Peterborough,Ontario. Seven (7) of these meetings are paint-ins and three (3 are social/luncheon functions. They are the Opening, Christmas and Closing. At each of the seven(7) meetings the program committee will have selected a project and a teacher will take you through the steps. You are informed of the project in advance as sometimes prep. work may be necessary. Most projects will be completed in the time allowed.
LIBRARY
One of the main features of our guild is our library. We have an excellent selection of books, pattern packets, magazines, videos and DVD's. You must be a member and wear your name tag to order anything from the library.
SOCIAL
Each year we make up a chart for "MUFFIN DUTY". You will be asked to put your name beside a month that you will be able to bring one (1) dozen muffins. Buttertarts, cookies. loaves, etc. are great as well. If you can not make the meeting you signed up for, please arrange for a friend who is also a member to bring your goodies.
NEWSLETTER
Our newsletter is published bi-monthly and we offer advertising to any member that has a business. For $25.00 a year we will insert your business card size ad. We welcome non-member advertising at a cost of $35.00 per year.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
1) MEMORY BOXES
We provide the boxes to paint which we donate to the Maternal Care Program at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
MEMBERSHIP
The $40.00 membership is due at the September meeting and is non-refundable and non-transferable. You are welcome as a guest one time prior ro joining and once you join you are able to bring a guest of your own to a meeting with you. The membership fees are used to keep the guild running for the year. Our expenses include the hall rental, teachers fees, coffee, tea, condiments, prizes, library. Festival of Trees, memory boxes and newsletter costs. The guild is run purely on volunteer efforts of the executive. We all derive satisfaction in seeing the club run smoothly. To keep this happening we need lots of help and new faces are more than welcome. Joining a committee is a sure way to get to know other painters fast.
In order to offset the rental charges for the meeting room a charge of $2.00 is collected a each meeting by the membership committee including the social events and the Festival of Trees paint-in.
The executive works hard to keep the year entertaining. We are always looking for new ideas or an extra set of hands to help out various committees. If you feel you can help, please let us know.

NEWSLETTER May/June 2012
Snippets from Sharon?
It's hard to believe but this is the last newsletter of this season. Where do the months go?
Thanks to Helen Belsey for teaching the pen and ink rose at our March meeting. It is always nice to do something a bit different. Coming up in May we'll have Lori Fife as our teacher with a different type of project again. The instructions for her class are included in this newsletter.
We have the wood pieces cut and ready for our "Be a Santa to a Senior" Christmas ornament project. Thanks to Monaghan Lumber for donating the wood and to Earl Belsey, Wayne Stafford and George Wilkins for their woodcutting expertise & time. Many of us picked up our pieces at the March meeting but if you haven't got yours yet there will be more available to take. You can use your imagination, & whatever pattern you wish, to paint any of the 5 different shapes. The more we paint the more smiles we'll be giving to the seniors that will receive them. They will need to be finished (varnished as well please) and returned to Barb Pearce by the November meeting at the very latest.
June still seems far away but will be here before we know it. Our June luncheon will be a pot luck again as everyone seems to enjoy the wonderful feast we provide to ourselves! The schedule for that morning is as follows: 9:30 - 10am coffee, muffins; 10 - 11 bring along an unfinished project and take the opportunity to ask for help from some of our instructors and perhaps even finish painting it; 11am meeting, followed by lunch. During the meeting, beginning at 11am, we will need to hold the elections for the new executive members so it is important that we have the majority of the members in attendance. There will be lots going on that day, so hopefully you will all be able to come and enjoy it.
Also at our June meeting, the program committee would appreciate collecting ideas for next season's projects. If you have an idea, a pattern or even a painted sample of something you would like taught (or to teach), please bring it along to the June meeting.
And, speaking of executive members….our nominating committee consists of Lin Jarvis, Joanne Riel and I. We need to fill the positions of Secretary, Vice President, Programs and Muffin/Social. Please consider doing your part to support our guild and volunteer for one of these positions. If you would like to stand for election or nominate anyone (with their prior consent) please let any of the 3 of us know. The nominations will be announced at our May meeting and the election will take place during the June meeting. If by chance we have more than one volunteer for a position, we will utilize a secret ballot for voting.
Enough business, I'm going back to painting now. May your brush be your friend……
